Abstract:
The emergence of the so-called “historic memory” and of the studies related to them, and the fact that the recent civil war and Franco’s regime has been at the centre of the public debate in recent years and has been a go-to argument of cultural productions has not gone unnoticed in Galician society nor in its literary system. Thus, in the framework of the so-called “memory boom” and especially from the year 2000, there is a surge of novels dealing with events that took place during the dictatorship in Galicia and related basically to repression, resistance or oppression linked to that historical period. The main goal of this PhD dissertation is to study this novelistic phenomenon through the in-depth analysis of the ways of representing Franco’s regime and old customs in a representative corpus of modern novels, such as Non hai noite tan longa by Agustín Fernández Paz, Os últimos fuxidos by Xosé Fernández Ferreiro or A vitoria do perdedor by Carlos Reigosa.
