Literatura en lengua española y literatura comparadaAbstract:
The main objective of this research is to analyse a big corpus of Linares Rivas’ dramatic texts to highlight his particular weltanschauung (criteria, values and attitudes) during the 20th-century Spanish crises. It is a study based on the theory of communicative action developed by the philosopher Jürgen Habermas. To do that, we will analyse the most outstanding texts and contexts of his work. This will allow us to address the secondary objective of the dissertation: to prove the hypothesis that his plays belong to the innovative and ground-breaking trend of Spanish theatre in the first third of the 20th century, with authors such as Ángel Guimerá, Adrià Gual, Ramón Gómez de la Serna or Joaquín Dicenta. The critical review of his supposed similarities to Benavente’s plays will be an important part of this dissertation. To that end, we will argue that, even if the most canonical critics classify him as a “Benavente-like epigone”, both his liberal and progressive stance, as well as other stylistic, stage or critical and theoretical aspects do separate them. Lastly, the third objective will establish a line of research regarding Spanish theatre in the first third of the 20th century based on the theory of communicative action.Program:
