Abstract:

In Galician semantics, an actor acts, but does not play. However, we see that the verb “play” is used in French and English, opening thus a meaning gap that makes us wonder the reason of that semantic relationship. An invitation to analyse both phenomena together, both types of “plays” and “games”, in order to clarify the phenomenon of playing in a way that Galician language recognises theatre performances as a “game”.
In this dissertation we will establish the theatrical playing, understood as what is done by whoever plays on stage. We will look for other ways to express the phenomenon of stage acting and search for structures and elements in common with the theories of game, especially the one formulated by Jacques Henriot.
Lastly, we will try to put those results at the service of pedagogy in order to find useful tools for the training of actors. We will also propose solutions for the use of games in drama schools, with new strategies to complement the ones used today.
