Abstract:

Juan Mayorga’s plays, winner of important awards in Spain and also very successful in other countries, are deemed to be some of the most solid in contemporary Spanish theatre. Despite his vast body of work, it is worth mentioning the little attention critics have paid to an important part of it: short texts. To date, they have not been thoroughly analysed nor documented and only partial essays have been written regarding some particular aspect. This dissertation focuses on the most relevant formal aspects and topics found in the short works of this Madrid-born playwright. Part of it also analyses the spectacularity of the texts in order to achieve a complete vision of his dramatic works.
It is always important to analyse the literary canon from a contemporary point of view. Therefore, this dissertation aims at asserting the dramatic works of a fundamental author in Spanish theatre, while, at the same time, filling the lack of bibliography regarding his short texts.
