Abstract:

This dissertation aims at demonstrating the existence of a relation of equivalence between the aesthetic thinking of the Irish writer Samuel Beckett, the Austrian composer Anton Webern and the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, in such a way that it can be asserted that the same essence is present in three different materials, that the same artistic idea is materialised in three different realities. To put it another way, this study will show that Samuel Beckett’s works are a literary representation of Anton Webern’s music and Piet Mondrian’s paintings; in other words, Webern’s music is an acoustic representation of Mondrian’s paintings and Beckett’s literary works and vice versa.
