Abstract:
The research work on the Festas Minervais, which took place in Santiago de Compostela in the mid-20th century, aims at filling a gap in the studies of the History of Contemporary Galician Literature.
During the 50s and 60s, the Sindicato Español Universitario (S.E.U.) of Compostela created a national literature contest that, from 1956, also had a call for proposals in Galician language, with the participation of the authors that shaped from within the post-war Galician literary field.
The monetary award, which also entailed media exposure and social status, will serve as a boost to the literary production in Galician to a generation that had started to publish mainly in Spanish and in an adverse context.
