This dissertation focuses on the figure and works of Gabriel the Musician, whose works can be found in important chansonniers of the 15th and 16th century, given his double role as musician and poet. The author’s biography will be studied to complete the drafts written by critics so far. At the same time, the sources containing his works will be analysed, which will sometimes entail a first critical approach from a philological point of view. The problem of authorship of his poems and songs is one of the most relevant aspects that will be discussed in this dissertation, proposing for the first time a thorough study of it in order to establish a complete list of Gabriel’s works, in which a clear difference will be made between his role as poet and musician, in the case of texts not written by him. The ultimate goal of this research is an in-depth study of his works. So far, only some of their features have been analysed in the editions of the chansionners in which they are listed. Therefore, I will provide a careful analysis of his body of work, also paying attention to its musical aspect and its relation to the written text.Program:
