Abstract:
The celebration of the I Socialist Contest (Reus, 1885) starts a boom period for the Hispanic Utopian writing that, thanks to the libertarian movement, is able to articulate a big number of texts that, until the mid-30s, focus on the search of an Ideal. In these works, created in the last two strongholds of the anarchist movement, Spain and the Río de La Plata, it is possible to track signs and strategies common to the modern Utopian genre, that is, a rather obvious heritage of More’s Utopia. However, during the almost four-hundred years gap between the publishing of this book and the libertarian works of authors such as Quiroule, Dittrich, Mella or Martínez Rizo, there are important changes in the way of narrating. In the libertarian utopia, they entail narrative innovations necessary to achieve its main goal: to propose an alternative society.
